New Face of Racism?!?!

Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s controversial comment when she was asked to respond to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's famous remark that "a wise old man and a wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases," ushered in heated criticism from leading conservatives, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and radio rabble-rouser Rush Limbaugh. Besides labeling the Supreme Court nominee as a “racist” for stating, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life," conservative pundits have also criticized her as an “activist judge” who relies on her personal feelings, rather than the law to make decisions.

“Activist judge?” Hmmm…,like a judge who instates a president who blows the surplus, gets the country into a ludicrous war, institutionalizes torture, and helps usher in the worst economic recession since the Great Depression? Although there should be no room in the Supreme Court for activist judges—why is there no one harping about the current “activist” judges who appointed one of the worst presidents this country has ever had to deal with, and who still are on the bar? Maybe it’s time to install qualified judges like Sotomayor who understand the consequences of chauvinism and aren’t afraid to point out the very white, conservative ideals that perpetuate this country’s racist/classist problems. And as far as her being a racist, yeah—maybe towards white men like Limbaugh.
