Shurtleff's Exciting Announcement

Mark Shurtleff’s choice of time and place to formally announce he was a candidate for U.S. Senate might have been a little better.
The Attorney General stood on the Capitol steps Wednesday afternoon with about 20 supporters behind him watched by a gaggle of reporters and curious onlookers. He lambasted Sen. Bob Bennett and President Obama and issued a call to “take America back” to “principles of thrift and paying your own way.” But the big cheers were leaking out from the Capitol rotunda.
It was inside the Capitol where the real excitement was happening. There, hundreds gathered to sing “I’m Proud to be an American,” boo Obama “socialism,” the federal stimulus package and both political parties. It was a rally for the Patrick Henry Caucus, a new state’s rights movement organized by Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman. And it was filled with the voters Shurtleff is courting in his bid to beat Bennett in the Republican primary.
Many rally participants wore paper badges that read “Just Say No to Federal Mandates.” One man’s sign read “My other sign is a pitchfork.” Another featured a photo of President Obama and the title “The New King George.”
Maybe there would have been more excitement for Shurtleff if the Attorney General hadn’t already electronically announced his candidacy twice, on twitter and on Facebook.
