“It’s become so big!”

That’s what she said. And by "she" we mean Rolling Stone, and by “it” we mean a performance by Chicago based Flosstradamus who according to the music magazine is the best new DJ duo of our time.

Floss is Autobot (Curt Cameruci) and J2K (Josh Young). They started out at a Chicago dive bar but thanks to beautifully crafted mash-ups, particularly a remix of Matt and Kim’s “Yeah, Yeah” over a Basement Jax track and a little Internet magic, they have become international touring sensations playing big-time events including Coachella, SXSW, Pitchfork Music Festival and Lollapalooza. On Wednesday, May 20, they'll showcase their talent in a decidedly smaller venue - W Lounge.

To our surprise, Flosstradamus has a strong tie to Utah.

“I actually have a winter home in Park City and have been skiing out there since I was 10 years old, so SLC has a special place in my heart,” says J2K. “We've only played as Flosstradamus once before, and it was awesome. However, it was Halloween so we have no clue what the straight-up, non-costume based party scene is like. We're betting on it being pretty amazing though.”

J2K and Autobot are excited to get back to playing shows after having dedicated the past few months exclusively to the production of the Nike Apple Exercise Mix with legendary rappers De La Soul.

“De La put together 4 or 5 songs, some complete, some a bit more rough, totaling about 20 minutes and sent them to us,” said J2K. “It was our job to turn those core songs into a 45 minute complete track, so basically we had to fill in the gaps and extend things out to give it a better flow.”

Flosstradamus prides themselves on eclectic sets, playing indie, hip-hop, oldies, electro and more. Their secret is never having a standard, pre-determined set. I asked them what they where planning for the W Lounge showm but they don't even know.

“We never plan sets,” says J2K. “It's way more fun to play it by ear and ad that human element to the night. You never know what people are going to be feeling that night, it varies, so you really just have to read the crowd.”

The Flosstradamus performance is part of a two-day “Summer Kick-Off Party” as part of the Wednesday night “Scenester Siege” theme at the W Lounge. On Tuesday, May 19, Million $ Mano who is best known as the DJ for Grammy-nominated artist M.I.A., will also perform.

Tickets to the Million $ Mano performance on May 19 are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Flosstradamus tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. W Lounge is a 21 venue located on 358 S. West Temple
