Liam Neeson may have played a Jedi Knight, but it took Taken for him to become a certified cinematic badass. New on DVD today is this bare-bones revenge thriller casting Neeson as an ex-government agent tracking down the white slavers who kidnapped his daughter. In a year of unexpected box-office hits, it's hard to decide whether the chord this one struck is as unlikely as Paul Blart (coming next week).

And it's also something thrilling to keep audiences away from Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, which Kate Beckinsale was wise enough to stay away from. Not even silly enough to be fun, it's just a tedious slog through the back-story already familiar from the previous two Underworld installments. Maybe Liam Neeson can open up a can of smackdown on the people who kidnapped dollars from those who watched this stinker.
