And now from this week's society pages: This past Saturday, the Consociates Auxiliary hosted its 16th annual Women of Distinction luncheon at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Sandy where the organization honored Sylvia Garcia Rickard, a 14-year legislative team leader for the national Breast Cancer Coalition and Wells Fargo VP of Community Relations Denise M. Winslow.

[image-1] Rickard survived two bouts of breast cancer only to find her life's calling as an advocate for women's heath care on both the federal and state level. I get the feeling she has Orrin Hatch's personal cell phone on her speed dial. Winslow is the mom of Deseret News prolific reporter Ben Winslow, and she showcased the family's storytelling DNA in her recounting--told with some Mark Twain-like flair--of a road trip she took as a girl with her grandmother and her grandmother's best friend.

Consociates is a subset of the Salt Lake's Assistance League. It's a club for working people who usually say, "I'm too busy to join." This event also raised funds for two of the organization's projects, Baby Bundles and Assault Survivor Kits. [image-2]

Capping off the luncheon was a fashion show featuring the dynamite apparel (modeled by Consociates members, at right) of Haroon's. Formerly located at Crossroads mall and Trolley Square, Haroon's is still with us, alive and well in Foothill Village.

And what could be the cherry on top of this pleasant gathering of convivial women? Running into Miss Julie (Edna Anderson Taylor), of KSL's Romper Room fame, still looking vibrant and friendly as ever. The magic mirror has been good to her.
