Last night, a small crowd gathered for an intimate show at "The Loft," a residential space located on State Street that has started to become a site for word-of-mouth house shows. Pedro the Lion's David Bazan performed there on Tuesday and last night Torrey resident/man about town David Williams held a concert to help raise funds for his forthcoming LP. Guests dressed to the nines, sipped wine and noshed on snacks provided by friends and supporters of Williams who want to see his album finished as much as he does. The outpouring of generosity was nearly as impressive as the show itself.

Williams, backed by a rotating cast of supporting band members including folks from Band of Annuals, The Black Hens, The Rubes, Calico, and several solo artists singing and playing the saw, recorder, pump organ, trumpet, guitar, bass, fiddle and drums, started with his most widely known hit "Echo" which Band of Annuals has covered. His set ran for two or so hours with a brief intermission and included several songs from his highly anticipated debut full-length recorded by Adam Selzer (The Decemberists). The evening was so successful, it's possible other local bands might adopt the model to help realize plans that need that little extra something to get off the ground. It's nights like these that make SLC such a cool place to generate and experience art. Keep an eye out for future house shows.
