We're Not So Drunk! We're Not So Drunk!

There are those who are terribly concerned that liberalized liquor laws, once they go into effect in July, will result in rampant irresponsible drinking behavior. If that proves to be the case, at least we're starting from a pretty good place.

According to a survey published in Men's Health magazine, Salt Lake City ranks sixth from the bottom on a list of the drunkest 100 metropolitan areas in America. The ranking was based on a variety of factors including fatal alcohol-related auto accidents, DUI arrests, prevalence of binge drinking and per capita deaths from alcohol-related liver disease. Only Bangor, Maine was a safer place to drive and avoid drunk drivers, and SLC was 10th lowest for binge drinking. Chill out, folks; we seem to be able to handle our liquor.

On the other hand, driving east might not be the safest bet. Denver and Colorado Springs rank as the first and third drunkest cities in the country, respectively, with Boulder and Cheyenne, Wyoming also ranking in the top 20.
