New releases for your consideration:

Metric - Fantasies

Canadian new-wave quartet fronted by Emily Haines - widely recognized for her role in Broken Social Scene's rotating crop of female singers - is back with a follow-up to their stellar 2005 LP Live It Out. Fantasies ups the robotic beats factor with electro-dance hits that at times diminish the band's edgy vibe. Still, it's catchy and sexy enough to become a permanent fixture on your iPod playlists.

Sick Muse - Metric

Silversun Pickups - Swoon

I first caught these Silverlake sweethearts at the ASCAP Music Cafe during Sundance 2007. At the time they blew away the rest of the mostly mellow singer/songwriters with an energetic set that nodded to heavy 90s-era influences, mainly Smashing Pumpkins thanks to Brian Aubert's polarizing voice. They still have that nostalgic vibe but are edging away from the dated, angsty sound destined to wither away on Top 40 "alt-rock" stations.

Panic Switch - Silversun Picku...

If you can purchase only one album this week, head off the beaten path with John Doe and The Sadies. Country Club could serve as a reply to Whiskeytown's song "Lo-Fi Tennessee Mountain Angel" - "You say you want to play country/ but you're in a punk rock band."

Stop The World And Let Me Off ...

Doe will be in Utah this summer as part of Deer Valley's outdoor summer concert series.
