[image-1] Do you fear robots? I hereby join your ranks.
The ever patriotic Fox News is touting the military's new "Big Dogs," extolling their imagined future virtues in Afghanistan.
If you resided in Afghanistan and saw this video, I wonder if you could keep from crawling out of your skin. On your way to joining the local Taliban chapter, that is, which is about the only logical response to a robot invasion of your country.
I especially love the reassuring note the interview concludes upon :
Bill: "There's always a human being in the loop on these, is there not, Chris?"
Chris: "Oh, absolutely, in fact, Bill, you mention an issue of particular importance: The Army is in the process of finishing up a so-called white paper which is a look at this issue of robots overall and the need to always have a human or a soldier in the loop so as to make decisions about when threats should be acted upon and do the proper thing."
Perhaps science fiction should be banned from the earth. It seems like every dark cautionary tale that science fiction gives us becomes some defense contractor's cash cow.
