At least one (kind of unexpected) delight this week, and one that critics in general don't quite seem to be grasping: Duplicity, writer/director Tony Gilroy's slick spin on the con caper. And the emphasis here is that it's a spin on the con caper; even other folks who seem to like the movie appear to be approach it strictly as disposable wait-for-the-twist entertainment, rather than as a romance with trust issues. It's smarter (and wiser) than it's getting credit for.
And then there's I Love You, Man, in all its bro-mantic glory. Nice idea; too bad it's not actually all that funny.
