Just in case the Salt Lake Film Society's regular offerings weren't cool enough, tonight offers a look at some of its even more eclectic programming.

At the Tower Theatre at 9 p.m., it's time once again for the semi-regular Open Mic Night, showcasing short films by local filmmakers. SLFS staff, a guest critic and the audience will all have the opportunity to select a favorite that will be featured in a year-end "Best of ..." program. If you've got a creation on DVD and $5 for the submission fee, bring it down. If you've just got $1 for the "suggested donation," come and cheer on your friends and neighbors.

The Broadway Centre, meanwhile, presents The Red Shoes, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 1948 interpretation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale set in a world-class ballet company starring Moira Shearer (pictured). It's part of Ballet West's "Ballets Russes" festival, with only a $5 admission for a 35mm presentation.
