This
past Saturday the downtown library held its Literary Luminaries
event, working with SLC Film Center, Night Flight Comics, The English
Garden and the Community Writing Center to name a few, bringing in both
local and national writers to talk to the
fans about their work. Guests for the event included Leslie Brimhall,
Jennifer
Adams, Robyn Buttars, Steve Nilles, Laurel Hart, Bill Galvan and
Corinne Humphrey.
Check
it out. The Tower Theater is so old and majestic, it owns its
own cat!--- So
there's this new album out, you may have heard of it, it's called
Starmageddon.The first release
party for it was last night at Urban Lounge, playing to an almost
packed house, with the ever exciting Rope Or Bullets opening (with
dancers no less) and a set from Will Sartain. The band played
the album almost start to finish, getting the crowd to sing along to
a musical experience that took them roughly four years to finish.
The
good majority of local actors and actresses are usually well known only
to the theater community and the frequent patron. But one local took
her craft to a different level and became a web phenomenon overnight. --- Deena
Marie Manzanares has been writing, directing and acting in her own
films for almost a year now, striking a chord with the internet
audience of YouTube to much success. All while continuing a
professional acting career, performing in a dance troop, and continuing
to expand her opportunities in various forms. I
got a chance to chat with Deena about her career in theater, dance,
videos and all other points in-between.
The day after
Thanksgiving for a lot of the city was nothing but shopping. But for me I
went and spent my time at a show, where the only injury I suffered in a crowd
was a ringing in my ear. --- Most every venue took the day before off, and to make up for leaving the
state without a day of music somewhere they all brought in some awesome sets
for the crowds. And Kilby
Court was no exception this past Friday bringing
in Labcoat, The Auto-Pirates, and Michael Gross & The Statuettes. I
got a chance to chat with all three bands and took some pictures of the show
that followed. "Hey dude, what did you do on Black Friday? Got
an iPhone and a couple punches to the face? That's cool. Me?
Oh, I walked away happy!" Labcoat (Nik G, Rick Gerber, Wim Becker, Jon Olsen's stand-in) http://www.myspace.com/labcoat9000 Gavin: Hey guys, first off, tell us who you are and a little about
yourselves.
