Hey
look, a cat at Boing!
--- Nothing from the 337 Memorial Wall
this time, probably due to the weather I'm guessing we won't see many
more updates this year. In fact as winter sets in, a lot of the
art scene tends to slow down. But music and film tend to pick
up this time of year, so let's jump into the music end of
things.
Sad to read that The Explicit have broken up.
Although they claim that they've been broken up for a long while, you
couldn't really tell that from their performance at Red Light Books
back in January. A number of people don't give the punk scene
credit for having great bands, and The Explicit were definitely one
of the finest we had. ...Shame. Much like most every band
that breaks up, they've split off into other projects (most of them
into Lexi Sayok), so
they'll still be giving the scene some punk.
Last
Saturday was crazy with events, aside from 24 Hour Comic, I also made
it to the SCDG Championship Game. That is, after walking a mile
through the Salt Palace. I realize it's a convention center,
but it's about the size of an airport inside. Said hi to a lot
of people, and stayed for the hard hitting action all around for the
first half. And was later informed that Leave It To Cleavers won the
title (yeah, I was rooting for them)! You can see my blurry
pictures from the event here.
Then I had to bolt down South
Temple over to "An October Evening" where I arrived just in
time to say hi to Lloyd Kauffman again, and see one of the finest
performances I've seen all year. Vile Blue Shades, performing a
double encore no less, in the Masonic Temple. Without a doubt,
that show probably rocked whatever secret caves lie beneath that
building! And pictures to boot!
Coming up this week I'll
have interviews with Salt City Indie Arts, It's1AM, and information
about the move for Red Light Books. Then back to band
interviews and who knows what else as we enter November. Enjoy
the fall while you can ladies and gents, the shows start packing in
tight before snowfall and the best is yet to come! As always,
we'll see what happens.
