Take a walk on the wild side this week by attending a 21-and-older benefit at Hogle Zoo. You also won’t want to miss cowboys and cops in a shootout with cystic fibrosis. And later, check out a forum on civility in U.S. politics hosting former Sen. Bob Bennett.

Zoo Rendezvous
Thursday, Sept. 8

Show your support for nonprofit Hogle Zoo by attending the Zoo Rendezvous, a chance to enjoy the finest in local foods and brews and take part in a silent auction with unique zoo gifts. Tickets cost $150, but proceeds go to take care of the zoo’s animal habitats. With the tasty local fare, libations and a live band, this really is your best chance to enjoy what is pun-riffically being billed as the “wildest party in town.” Get it? Utah’s Hogle Zoo, 2600 E. Sunnyside Ave., 801-584-4546, Sept. 8, 6-11 p.m., ZooRendezvous.com

Cowboys and Cops Shootout
Saturday, Sept. 10

In what has got be the ultimate showdown—besides ninjas vs. pirates—local cops and old-timey cowboys will square off against cystic fibrosis. Technically, cops and the cowboy shooters will be testing their triggernometry against each other in an event raising money to fight the lung disease cystic fibrosis. Weaponry from the 1800s will be on display, along with some fancy shootin’—free for spectators, donations welcome. Garth Killpack Range, mouth of Hobble Creek Canyon, Springville, 801-787-5208, Sept. 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., CFF.org/Chapters/Utah

Civility in American Politics
Tuesday, Sept. 13

Civility in our political process—or the lack thereof—will be the subject of an upcoming forum at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics. The forum will include Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, state Sen. Karen Morgan, D-Salt Lake City, as well as former Republican Sen. Bob Bennett to discuss whether today’s politics have been spoiled by partisan rancor and how parties can disagree and still get along and get stuff done. Orson Spencer Hall, 260 S. Central Campus Drive, University of Utah, 801-581-8501, Sept. 13, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Hinckley.Utah.edu
