In 2002, Snowbasin drew top skiers from around the world to compete in Olympic ski racing events. Eight years later, the resort is again bringing in top skiers—and snowboarders—from around the world to compete in the Winter Dew Tour. The event runs Thursday through Sunday at the resort, with men’s and women’s events in snowboard (superpipe and slopestyle) and freeski (superpipe and slopestyle) throughout the day. On Friday night, Dashboard Confessional will play a concert in conjunction with the tour on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street, along with local opening act Codi Jordan.

Snowbasin is one of three stops—along with Breckenridge, Colo. and Mount Snow, Vt.—on the Tour, which is in its second year. The $1.5 million in prize money—as well as the chance to be seen on NBC and MTV—is drawing top athletes such as Andreas Wiig (pictured), a snowboarder for Team Toyota who has previously won gold medals at the X Games. Wiig hails from Norway, but is excited to come to Utah to compete because “it’s cool that it’s in a place where so many dedicated snowboarders live. I think the crowds in Utah know what’s up with snowboarding compared to a lot of other places.” Besides the crowds, Wiig notes, “Utah is, for sure, a really good place to ride powder.”

Wiig said he also enjoys the interaction with fans at the Dew Tour Festival Village, open daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. He will be signing autographs at the Team Toyota booth Saturday at noon with many other tour competitors.
