I can feel empathy for her situation. Time does change a person, however she was convicted of killing her child. Whether it was intentional or not is insignificant as she participated in the abuse that led to death. Her punishment is neither cruel nor unusual. She may die in prison for what she has done. She may forever regret that she made a mistake that sent her to prison to the end of her life, but her punishment is fair and just. I do not have the impression that false hope was given then snatched away. That would be cruel punishment, but since her release date was years away I feel this decision does not qualify as being cruel.
