I must admit it drives me bonkers when I click on Rino’s Website and “Funiculi, Funicul” comes blasting through my computer speakers. I’d much rather hear it dining al fresco on the restaurant’s grape-arbor patio or in its Old World charm-filled dining room. Get it straight: This isn’t about cutting-edge Italian cuisine. No foams. No coulis. But for classic old-school Italian fare like veal piccata, shrimp scampi, seafood linguine, lasagna, eggplant Parmesan and house-made ravioli in a beautiful setting, this is the place. With a slight nod to Continental cuisine, the appetizer selection even includes escargots and French onion soup. Partners/hosts Rino and Hoss are legendary in Salt Lake City, as is their renowned bread pudding with hot rum sauce.
