In 1991, the original Pier 49 Pizza restaurant opened with the goal to create the best pizza around. Through months of trial and error, a special sourdough crust, which is the foundation of Pier 49 Pizza's gourmet pizza, was developed. Months of painstaking experiments followed to find just the right blend of sauces, spices, cheeses and toppings. Each pizza made at Pier 49 Pizza is now offered with a choice of zesty tomato, alfredo, pesto, spinach, barbecue, cajun, garlic, or southwest sauce.
