About eight years ago, a reader named Robb wrote to ask if I knew of any good fish & chip shops in the Salt Lake City area. He’d spent three years in the Air Force stationed in England and was pining for a taste of Britain. Well, a couple months ago Robb wrote again, this time to tell me about his new discovery: Little Taste of Britain. It’s located on Main Street in Layton, just north of the Hill Field Road intersection (1095 N. Main). Run by Nick & Mandy Island, Little Taste of Britain, on one side, is a small place serving fish & chips. On the other is a pint-size market filled with British specialty items—everything from kidney pies and bangers to Union Jack Bermuda shorts. But the main draw is the fish & chips. The fish is meaty filets of scrumptious fresh cod with a perfect Brit-style batter. If the food were wrapped in the London Times, you’d swear you were back in England! Phone 543-5707.
Mini Mondays: Are you ready for some football? Beginning this week, Acme Burger Company offers a new Monday night menu option called Monday Night Mini Madness, from 6-10 p.m. A Mini Madness 6-pack features mini burgers of bison, lamb and beef, shoestring fries (which are awesome), and three 4-oz servings of draft beer for $12.50. A 12-pack sells for $25, and to feed your famished football party, there’s also a “case” option for $50.
