How should Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. spend Utah’s share of the economic stimulus package?
Jeff Reese: It would be a good idea to give some kind of subsidy on mortgages so that people pay less each month. This would allow more people to buy homes and stimulate the housing market and allow those who already have mortgages to spend more money each month, which would stimulate the consumer market.
Jennifer Nixon: Gov. Huntsman, I beg of you: Please use the money to improve Utah’s air quality! I like this state, I love this city, but something needs to be done—we can’t breathe!
Scott Renshaw: That might provide the seed money to create an entire clean-energy infrastructure by building a wind farm directly outside Chris Buttars’ mouth.
Julie Erickson: Utah’s share needs to be funneled through small businesses to ensure the money goes back to the community and keeps on filtering through the people. Be effective! Be, be effective!
Nick Clark: We could fill all the holes downtown with lucrative businesses, spacious parks or lots and lots of bunnies.
Jeremiah Smith: He should use it to lobby for the removal of our stupid private-club laws. That, or spend it on education—whichever seems more important.
Derek Jones: He should spend it on a free spray-on tan for every Utahn. We may all be broke, but we’ll be the healthiest and sexiest state in the nation.
