It’s officially time to start communing with nature, and a great way to start is with a celebration of trails in Ogden. Enjoy a trail dedication and more nature-oriented biking, bird-watching and dog walking than you can shake a walking stick at. After a hard weekend of playing, join the Utah Poverty Partnership for a barbecue and meet-the-candidates event. Finally, start the coming week by discussing a possible Workforce Services rule to require immigration documents of people seeking food stamps.

National Trails Day
Saturday, June 5
Celebrate the completion of a continuous trail system along the Ogden and Weber rivers by learning all of the ways to enjoy it. Find out more about the local wetlands, take part in bird-watching, get some angling tips or play a little Frolf—or “disc golf,” as the pros call it—and partake in many other activities perfect for making happy trails.
West side of Weber River, across from Fort Buenaventura, 2450 A Ave., Ogden, 801-393-2304, June 5, 7:30- 11 a.m. For directions or more info, e-mail mp@weberpathways.org.

Utah Poverty Partnership Barbecue
Monday, June 7
Come for free burgers and hot dogs courtesy of the folks helping to ease the burden of Utah’s poor. The barbecue, sponsored by the Crossroads Urban Center, not only will be a great time to meet and mingle with low-income advocates, but also will be open to local politicians, legislators and state office holders. Meet the ones who show up and high-five them for caring about the poor.
Liberty Park, 700 E. 900 South, 801-364-7765, June 7, 6-8 p.m. Crossroads-U-C.org

Department of Workforce Services Public Hearing
Tuesday, June 8
The Utah Department of Workforce Services is seeking comment on a proposed rule reducing benefits for families that include individuals who can’t or won’t provide immigration documents. Is this rule sticking up for the taxpayers, or is it just taking food out of the mouths of families in a vulnerable population? If you’ve got an opinion one way or the other, let your voice be heard.
Department of Workforce Services, 1385 S. State, June 8, 5-6 p.m. spixton@utah.gov
