There is something a bit incongruous about a number of Swedes fully bedecked in skintight, all-white outfits taking the stage with loads of kitschy bravado to front the prim and proper formal attire of Utah Symphony musicians.

Still, the two-hour musical spectacular that is ABBA—The Concert is perhaps the closest you will be able to get to the actual disco powerhouse that took over the world’s sound waves for a decade starting back in 1972. Led by Utah Symphony’s Principle Pops Conductor Jerry Steichen, acclaimed tribute band ABBAgain—which boasts inclusion of at least two original members of ABBA’s rhythm section—jives and grooves through classic tunes such as “Mamma Mia,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Money, Money, Money,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Waterloo,” “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” and the sheer fun that is “Dancing Queen.” It’ll be like the ’80s are just around the corner instead of several decades gone by.

Utah Symphony: ABBA—The Concert @ Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, 801-533-6683, April 29-30, 8 p.m., $30. UtahSymphonyOpera.org, ArtTix.org
