Has your dad has always secretly wanted to be a farmer with a blue-ribbon pig? Does your girlfriend still think everything about the ’90s is ironically hip? What about your little brother? Is he still holding out hope that if he knocks over a few milk bottles and wins his sweetheart a stuffed animal, she’ll finally kiss him under the stars? If you answered “yes” to any or all of those things, then you, my friend, are in luck because the Utah State Fair kicks off its annual 10-day run this weekend.
The Fair has always been able to offer a little something for everyone and this year is no different. Along with the regular staple of rides and cotton candy there’s a more serious side. The Greener Utah Exhibit will offer tips about how to help the environment and a Patriot’s Day Celebration—to honor military, emergency and law enforcement crews—will be held on Sept. 11. But don’t worry—there’s still fun and games to be had, too. Events like the Rotten Sneaker Contest, the AARP Wii senior bowling tournament, the always entertaining Demolition Derby and even a grandstand performance by Boyz II Men (pictured) assures that anyone and everyone will be able to find something of interest. And, with winter looming right around the corner, there’s no better way to spend the waning days of summer than strolling the fairgrounds on a warm September evening.
