The Utah Arts Festival and Park City Arts Festival garner artists from all over the world, but, until now, there hasn’t been a festival focusing solely on local artists. Generation A and Salt Lake Broadway, both Community Alliance initiatives, are changing that by presenting the first Utah Local Festival of the Arts. Here, local artists won’t be overshadowed by professional “booth surfers.”

Artists will include Cynthia Ferguson paper cutting, photographer Bob Bonham, painters Russell Irwin, Corey Flanders, Heather Flanders, Crystal Jensen, Cat Napier, and musical performances from the Gorgeous Hussies, the Dunmoore Lasses, the Amp’d Tour (Quarenteen & Doomed Obsession), Belly Dance With a Twist, Khmer Dance Company, Randy Mundy Band and Reverend Mayhem. Raffles and childrens’ activities are also included. Many of these artists have never shown their work before or only taken part in private showings.

The festival showcases the architecture of the Salt Lake Masonic Temple, in the Egyptian Revival style. It should be an appealing setting to view all genres of visual and performing arts. The festival will follow the previous evening’s “Best of Broadway” awards and gala, a fund-raising event benefiting Salt Lake Broadway and the Community Alliance. The evening includes dinner, silent auction, awards ceremony and entertainment.

Salt Lake Broadway is a local, volunteer-arts organization centered around the Broadway area downtown, and Generation A is a local organization promoting attendance of fine-arts events for young adults.

Utah Local Festival of Arts @ Salt Lake Masonic Temple, 650 E. South Temple, 801- 574-3385, Saturday, Oct. 10, 5-11 p.m.
