The fifth annual “Union of the Birds & Bees,” featuring cheese, food and microbrew pairings, will take place on Saturday, May 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of Ogden’s Union Station. Roosters Brewing Co., Beehive Cheese Co. and Union Grill are partnering to stage the event, which benefits Utah’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Ogden Regional Medical Center. “All three organizations are very passionate about the community and we feel fortunate that we could partner to assist the Ronald McDonald Family Room,” said Roosters owner Kym Buttschardt. During the event, guests can sample hand-crafted cheese from cheesemakers Tim Welsh and Pat Ford and microbrewed beers and sodas from brewmaster Steve Kirkland. Roosters’ chef and owner Pete Buttschardt will put it all together to create culinary satisfaction using Beehive Cheeses. These food and drink artisans will be on hand to answer questions regarding cheese, beverage making and food pairings. The cost of admission is $40 per person and the event has quickly sold out in previous years. Tickets can be purchased at BeehiveCheese.com.

Easter Made Easy
On Saturday, April 9, The No Name Gourmet (aka chef, caterer and educator Mike Roberts) will teach a cooking class at Gygi Culinary Solutions called “Easter Made Easy,” featuring Easter dishes that can be made ahead of time, allowing you to spend more time with family. Menu items include strawberry spring muffins, roasted veggie quiche, ham & Swiss quiche, “best ever” spiral ham, roasted asparagus salad, strawberry & orange salad, green chile scalloped potatoes and easy mini cheesecakes. The hands-on class runs from 2-5 p.m. Each class includes a set of recipes and instructions, a Gygi apron to keep, and attendees get to eat the meal they make at a family-style table. The cost for Easter Made Easy is $55 per person. Register at Gygi.com.
