The spectacular red-rock country of southern Utah is enough to take anyone’s breath away and make you wish you never had to go indoors for other entertainment. At Tuacahn Ampthitheatre, you don’t have to.
Carved out of the rock of Ivins, just north of St. George, Tuacahn annually hosts a summer season of impressive theater that only adds to the dazzle of the setting. This year’s showcase production is the regional premiere of Tarzan: The Stage Musical. Based on the 1999 animated Disney version of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, it presents a lavish retelling of the meeting between Tarzan and Jane (James Royce Edwards and Summer Broyhill, pictured), set to the award-winning Phil Collins song score including “You’ll Be in My Heart.”
Sharing the season will be another pair of crowd-pleasing classics: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, and the Gershwin-tune romantic comedy Crazy for You. Spend some of your outdoor time this summer enjoying both the work on the stage, and the magnificent backdrop behind it.
