The Word does Craft Sabbath

Crotched cupcakes, decorated toilet seat lids and earrings made from an old inner tube were only a few of the unique gifts found at Craft Sabbath on December 5th and 12th. Held on the first Sunday of every month, Craft Sabbath hosts many vendors selling their one of a kind crafts. The crafts found at Craft Sabbath cater to everyone in the pursuit of an original find. As an alternative to a gift basket from the grocery store or a generic gift from the local mall, I found a few noteworthy vendors that are worth checking out for your holiday needs.
One of the first vendors that caught my eye was Social Seam. The artist, Ann-Michelle Neal, grabbed my attention with her adorable crotched cupcakes and apples, perfect gifts for anyone on your list with a sweet tooth. Her other figures (lovable, little birds and delightful snowmen) would make anyone happy to be the recipient of such a unique gift. Neal also knits beautiful hats and scarves that are ideal for chilly Utah winters. Neal learned how to crotchet and knit from her grandmother and with practice (along with amazing talent), Neal has become a great addition to Craft Sabbath community. The second vendor that drew me near was The Unlikely Nest. Artist Amanda Howland creates lovely jewelry from unlikely resources. One item I found particularly creative was a pair of black earrings. When I got a closer look at the earrings, I was surprised to learn that they were made of thick plastic that makes up inner tubes and tires. Howland also creates unique pendants and cufflinks that are sure to make even the pickiest people pleasantly surprised. Inside the pendants and cufflinks are images of graffiti art that Howland photographed in her travels.
