The Way It Is

T, owner of West Valley City’s Q4U Hickory Smoked Barbeque Restaurant, can reel off the statistics of former Jazz great Adrian Dantley, one of the league’s most prolific scorers. “To me, he was the Karl Malone before there was a Karl Malone,” T said. “Why isn’t his No. 4 jersey retired?”

I think he deserved it. He won the Olympic gold medal. He was a six-time NBA all-star. For the Jazz, he averaged 30-plus [points] for four straight seasons. … There are other jerseys hung up there and they don’t have the kind of numbers that he’s got, you know what I’m saying? It’s just always been a puzzle to me why AD’s not up there.
