The Spot: Still Got It
Pristine pool tables, an electric fireplace on the smoking patio and one of the friendliest bartenders in town—Momma—make The Spot (870 S. Main) one of the more consistent places to relax in SLC. No fancy theme nights, no fancy karaoke, no fancy anything—isn’t that what you need every once in a while?
Movember’s Cause: Sugarhouse Pub
Movember is a quickly catching meme that encourages men to not shave in November. Local do-gooders have concocted a charity event to celebrate the end of the shaving-free month and simultaneously encourage those manly men to purvey their moustacherly wares at Sugarhouse Pub (1992 S. 1100 East) on Dec. 3. A portion of each drink sold that night will go to Livestrong—part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation—to generate money for cancer research and treatment. As the promoters proclaim, “Cancer touches us all … let’s touch it first.”
Northern Karaoke: Bourbon
As if you needed another reason to visit the best new underground (literally) bar in town, Bourbon House (19 E. 200 South) is offering karaoke on Thursdays. Spotlight entertainment starts it up at 9 p.m. If you’re tired of the other played-out-aoke venues in town, go below for salvation.
Southern Karaoke: Oscar’s
If you’d rather sing along to a bad MIDI track and light-up letters down in the south valley, give Oscar’s Social Club (8136 S. State) a try. It has the benefit of being one of the best bars in the area and, when we’ve been there before, Oscar’s has sported some of the, how should we put it … finer things of The Great South. OK, and by finer things we mean really hot ladies. So, do the karaoke, which starts at 9 p.m.
