Two years ago, we realized that the CWMA DJ Spin-off was too massive and too amazing for one night. So, we started throwing one of them at The Opium Lounge, located on the top floor of The Hotel (155 W. 200 South, 801-860-7180). There are a lot of reasons for this choice: great sound, three bars and hookah service, but mostly we just love the blacklights—they really make your whites look their whitest. But in all seriousness, over the years, this downtown club has been a regular stop for talented local and touring DJs like DJ Shortkut of The Beat Junkies, Bad Boy Bill and Baby Anne. Coming up, Utah’s finest beat producers will be taking over the Opium Lounge for the 5th Annual Utah Beat Society on May 14, at 9 p.m. Also, check out the newly opened gastropub The Barrel Room downstairs.
