On paper, Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney are a match made in comedy-land heaven. Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule performs witty, wry songs that delve into the fabric of American life. Her social commentary isn’t in your face, but her effective, catchy hooks about global warming linger. Comic-actor Julia Sweeney is most recognizable for her ’90-’94 stint with Saturday Night Live, including the androgynous “Pat” character. In her current stand-up schtick, she relates highly personal yet universal stories about sexuality, atheism and pop icons with God-like stature.

Joining forces, The Jill & Julia Show achieves a heavenly comedic connection, despite Sweeney’s atheist inclination. Sweeney relates an abundance of her life stories to complement Sobule’s songs; alternating the spotlight, they play off of each other’s talents. It’s one part lighthearted songs and stories, the other part thought-provoking discourse and diatribes. However, with loads of onstage banter, there’s plenty of knee slapping. The duo obviously has as much fun as the audience.

The Jill & Julia Show @ Eccles Center for the Performing Arts, 1750 Kearns Blvd., Park City, 435-655-3144, April 17, 7:30 p.m., $18-$65. EcclesCenter.org
