The Big Cheese
Wisconsin notwithstanding, Utah has its own bevy of cheeseheads—and, increasingly, national cheese enthusiasts are taking notice. To wit, Snowy Mountain Sheep Creamery, located in Eden, was awarded Best in Class at the U.S. Cheese Championship in Wisconsin for its Timpanogos Peak Blue Cheese, made from 100 percent sheep’s milk. The award was presented in the Bloomy Rind Sheep Cheese category, and the cheese is described by the makers as “timid—great for those who like a creamy cheese with a little blue flavor.” Snowy Mountain Sheep Creamery’s Strawberry Peak Alpine cheese also placed in the competition in the Cow and Sheep Blended Cheese category. Rodney Strong @ Silver Fork
On the evening of April 7, Silver Fork Lodge will host a wine dinner showcasing wines from Rodney Strong Vineyards, with the winery’s Mitch Preston in attendance to discuss the wines and answer questions. Wines featured will represent a broad spectrum of Rodney Strong offerings, including Rodney Strong Reserve Chardonnay, Russian River Valley; Knotty Vines Zinfandel, Estate Vineyards; Davis Bynum Pinot Noir (Davis Bynum was recently acquired by Rodney Strong); and Symmetry, Red Meritage, Alexander Valley. I recently had the opportunity to sample these wines, and all I can say is anyone attending this wine dinner is in for a treat! And, each guest will receive a complimentary Riedel wine glass and chances to win other prizes. The price for the dinner is $25 per person and an additional $35 for the optional wine pairings. Cucina Vanina Deli & Café has opened in Cottonwood Heights at 1844 E. Fort Union Blvd., featuring Southern Italian breakfast and lunch.
