New ’Cue
If you drive by The Sugarhouse Barbeque Company on 700 East and notice it’s missing, don’t fret. They’re not gone; they’ve just moved. The original restaurant was closed to make room for the new Sugar House streetcar, and the new eatery is now open at 880 E. 2100 South. Sugarhouse Barbeque Company has been delivering the smoked goods since 1996, when it opened as Redbones, specializing in Memphis-style barbecue but with some darned good Carolina ’cue, too, like the terrific pulled pork and Carolina Pig Sauce. And yes, the old motorcycle made the move to the new home, too. Phone 801-463-4800 for more information, or visit SugarhouseBBQ.com.

Farmers Market Returns
The Downtown Farmers Market is back for its 21st year, operating at Pioneer Park (300 W. 300 South) on Saturdays through Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (note the later closing time this year) and on Tuesdays from Aug. 6 to Oct. 22, 4 p.m. till dusk. Along with the usual mixed greens, garlic scapes, asparagus, radishes, greenhouse veggies, fruits and more, the Farmers Market will feature some new growers and artisans this year, including Salty Noodle Company, Cache Valley’s First Frost Farm (organic shallots and garlic), Sugar House Libations, Wilson’s Wicked Mustard, The Bagel Project and Rickenbach Ranch, a purveyor of farm-raised steelhead trout. For additional information and vendor lists, visit SLCFarmersMarket.org.

Kebab Carnival
From June 10 to 16 at the new Avenues location of Saffron Valley (26 E. St.), and from June 17 to 23 at the South Jordan restaurant (1098 W. South Jordan Parkway), owner Lavanya Mahate and her crew will honor the age-old tradition of tandoori cooking with their third-annual Kebab & Wine Carnival. During the Kebab Carnival, Saffron Valley will offer more than 25 different grilled kebab varieties, along with recommended wine pairings selected by Young’s Market Company. In addition to popular favorites like tandoori tikka, the carnival will feature unique kebabs such as bharwan aloo (cheese and herb-stuffed potatoes), shikampuri (minced lamb) and others. Visit SaffronValley.com for more information.
