Staffbox | Belated Ute Love

Failed to mention it in the column, but how ’bout them Utes?!?

n

Scott Renshaw: Congratulations! You’ve just earned the right to 1. earn no respect by beating a marginal ACC or Big East champion, or 2. have your ass handed to you by whichever SEC team loses its conference championship game.

n

Ben Rosch: What a freakin’ fun season. I only got to actually go to the TCU game and about pissed myself! Congrats, Utes!

n

Derek Jones: Anytime BYU is put in its place, I’m all for it!

n

Jeremiah Smith: They killed ’em this weekend. It was great to see the fools in blue get sent back to Happy Valley whining. So awesome.

n

Julie Erickson: Did they win? I went tailgating and that’s all I remember.

n

Cody Winget: Anytime we can send BYU back to Provo with its tail between its legs, it’s a good day. Undefeated and BCS-bound doesn’t hurt either. Go, Utes! I hope I never have to hear about Johnny Harline or 4th and 18 ever again. Our defense is still open.

n

Nick Clark: Obviously, if you do what’s right, on and off the field, I think the Lord steps in and plays a part in it. Magic happens.

n

Derek Carlisle: As a Georgia boy, I’m proud to see any team deserving of the red jersey. Happy to be bulldog in a land of Utes.

n

Eric Peterson: Yes! Utes! I have to admit, though, I have no real understanding of sports. I just love my alma mater and scorn BYU as an “academic institution” for having little intellectual freedom and even less integrity as a place of learning.

n

Holly Mullen: Yeah, John, how ’bout ’em? Now may I have a raise to buy a plane ticket to New Orleans and time off to watch them play in the Sugar Bowl?

n

Paula Saltas: Even God wanted the Utes to bust into the BCS. I guess we were living right! OK, pay up big time, you know who you are.

n

Jayne Pedersen: I am blue when it comes to politics and red when it comes to football. Go, Utes!

n

Tracey Stout: Utah 48, BYU 24 … just proves Cougars are half the men compared to the mighty Utes! Congrats!

n

Ted Scheffler: Don’t know a whole lot about them Utes. But how about that kicker dude? How come he’s not kicking for my Eagles in the NFL?

  • Feature | Rocky Times: Rocky Anderson is still on the case. Barack Obama had better watch his back.

nEighteen months ago, Rocky Anderson stood on the steps of Salt Lake’s City & County Building calling for the impeachment of the president. Protesters, some wearing rubber Dick Cheney masks, surrounded him, along with papier-mâché tableaus of Bush cabinet members chained together in black-and-white prison stripes. Sen. By most measures of small-business success in Utah, Tony Chlepas would be in the Hall of Fame. nHis mother, the late Helen Chlepas, was widowed with her four children still in grade school.
