Squeezebox Love

Thank you, Jacob Stringer, for your recent article on the Salt Lake Area Accordion Club [“Hip to Be Square,” April 15, City Weekly]. You were powerful! At our April event, I specifically asked how many persons were there because they saw the article in City Weekly, and you should have seen the hands! I was impressed.

In addition, thank you for looking at the accordion afresh, as is happening similarly elsewhere in the music world. Accordions seem to be “in,” as much in commercials as anything else. May 19, we’ll have famed Disney Alpine and Western yodeler Kerry Christensen. He was at Disney’s Epcot Center for seven years and in Disney’s feature film Home on the Range. He also has played Las Vegas and on cruise ships.

  • Mike Noel's Resistance to Reason

I enjoyed Colby Frazier's cover story about state Rep. Mike Noel, R-Kanab ["The Herd Bull of the House," May 14, City Weekly]. I attended the Great Public Lands Gamble Rally at the Capitol in January 2015, at which Noel audaciously stepped up to the microphone to attempt a refutation (the gospel according to St. Mike) of the "lies" being perpetrated by the proponents of public lands.

  • Natural Splendor and Fourplexes

I applaud Salt Lake City for proposing to expand mandatory recycling to apartments, multi-unit condominiums, and businesses. It is long overdue. I was disappointed, however, to find out upon e-mailing the city that fourplexes would be exempt from the proposed rule. I currently reside in a fourplex and have observed needless amounts of trash being thrown out that could have easily been recycled.

  • What Was She Thinking?

Regarding Stephen Dark's story about Scott Gollaher, "No Apologies" [April 16, City Weekly], the title says it all about Gollaher.
