Spring Has Sprung

What are your springtime rituals?

Rachel Scott: Clean up dog poo that’s been waiting for me most of the winter ...

Scott Renshaw: Nothing that wouldn’t have gotten me burned at the stake in colonial Massachusetts.

Bryan Mannos: Out with the old, in with the new.

Derek Carlisle: The cleaning and fine tuning of a 1987 AMC Eagle for the desert sessions will be my new springtime ritual.

Doug Kruithof: Tax procrastination ... Help!

Susan Kruithof: Worshipping the sun. Over the winter I get so pale, I forget I’m half Mexican. A tan is a must.

Paula Saltas: It’s that time of the year to shave my legs.

Jerre Wroble: I slide open my bedroom window after four months of a hermetic seal, dust the cobwebs off the plants and begin drinking Sauvignon Blanc (instead of Merlot). All while wearing an Easter bonnet.

Michael Barclay: Claritin-D. Damned allergies are going to kill me one of these days.

Rachel Piper: Nearly every year, as the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, I develop some kind of lame sickness that sends me crawling directly into bed when I get home from work. Ah, spring!

Kolbie Stonehocker: Spending as much time outside as I can before I have to hide from the sun until October—that blazing star hates me.

There is something about a self-taught artist who has developed the ability to look at the world through an artist's eyes. Peruvian-born Enrique Vera spent most of his life in the Nueva Leon region of northeast Mexico, and has developed an ability to capture the history, geography and culture of the region with his photography. Mestizo Gallery, in conjunction with local nonprofit organization Artes de Mexico en Utah, will present an exhibition of Vera's photography to close out its 2014 calendar.
