Spoonful of Comfort
—a mail-order chicken soup company started by Jeremy Ranch resident Marti Wymer—recently relocated to Utah in order to meet increasing demand. The seeds of the company were planted when Wymer’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. “I immediately thought to send chicken soup,” said Wymer. “It’s what she used to make to comfort me.” That idea eventually lead to Spoonful of Comfort, where customers can order 64-ounce jars of freshly made, wholesome chicken-noodle soup, along with baked rolls and cookies, delivered as a thoughtful, practical gift or just purchased for a comforting family dinner. Choucroute @ The Paris
Attention Alsatian food fans: The Paris is now serving Alsace’s great culinary contribution to the planet: choucroute (quite possibly, my favorite all-time comfort food). At The Paris, they make authentic choucroute using locally made Seigfried sausages and other meats, including knackwurst, fleischwurst, wienerwurst, weisswurst, bratwurst, salt pork and kassler (smoked pork chop). The meats are cooked slowly with fresh, organic (not pasteurized) sauerkraut from Washington, simmered in Alsatian wines: Pinot Blanc, Gew├╝rztraminer or Pinot Gris, with juniper berries, pink peppercorns, coriander, onions, carrots and potatoes. Drinking Made Easy in Utah
The HDNet series Drinking Made Easy, hosted by comic Zane Lamprey, will make stops in Utah, featuring Utah’s oldest bar, The Shooting Star Saloon, and Utah’s whiskey distillery, High West Distillery and Saloon. The show series follows Lamprey on his 53-city comedy tour, as he hops from bar to bar with drinking buddies Steve McKenna and fellow stand-up comedian Marc Ryan. “Drinking Made Easy” airs on Wednesday nights; the first airing of the Salt Lake City/Park City episode will be Feb. 2, followed by additional airings.
