Besides frivolous Facebooking, it’s rare that high school friends stick it out together. However, four former Olympus High friends have done so to fuel their passion and preserve dance’s place in their lives. After all, unless you’re competitive, scholarly or lucky, there aren’t many opportunities to continue the art.

Now in their 30s, these folks—in addition to having busy family lives and teaching dance at local studios—have choreographed and auditioned for A Soujourn of Dance after a two-year performance hiatus. They’ll be joined by more than 20 dancers (middle-schoolers to 30-somethings) for fun, yet intriguing dances, while musicians Alex Boye and Jessie Clark Funk play spirited numbers, from classical to an Aretha Franklin melody to Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way”—with every dancer dancing.

Transitioning between dances, three-minute videos featuring interviews and rehearsal footage will prep the audience. Choreographer Julie Boye says, “We don’t want the audience to be confused, but just to enjoy the show.”

Sojourn Dance Company: A Sojourn of Dance @ Jeanne Wagner Theatre, 138 W. Broadway, 801-323-6800, March 15, 7:30 p.m.
