So much sushi!
Boy, oh, boy. If you love sushi, landlocked Utah is the place to be! Seems like you can’t swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting a maki roll, and now a host of new sushi spots have recently opened.
To help satisfy your sushi jones there is the new Simply Sushi location (180 W. 400 South, 801-746-4445, SimplySushi. us) where you’ll find all-you-can-eat sushi ($14.95 lunch/$19.95 dinner). Sapa Sushi Bar & Asian Grill has opened (722 S. State, 801-363-7272, SapaBarAndGrill.com), serving an extensive array of rolls, nigiri and sashimi. They also feature a sushi happy hour with selected discounted rolls. Down in South Jordan, Blue Fish Sushi Bar (11587 S. District Drive, Ste. 100, 866-450-1493, BlueFishUtah.com) is open in the District Mall across from the Megaplex 20 theaters. They feature sushi, sashimi and nigiri, with chef’s special sushi rolls that vary daily.
Over in West Jordan, Sakana Sushi Bar & Japanese Cuisine has opened (7626 Campus View Drive, Building G, Suite 110, 801-282-0670, SakanaSushiBar.com). Sakana serves up a vast selection of rolls, nigiri and sashimi, along with a large choice of cooked entrees like seafood tempura, yaki-soba, salmon teriyaki, pork katsu and much more.
Don’t have time to belly up to the sushi bar? Then visit Keith Guevara and Peggi Whiting’s Hayai Zushi (307 W. 600 South, 801-364-1699, HayaiZushi.com). It’s Salt Lake City’s only drive-thru sushi establishment.
Along with standard sushi rolls like eel, spicy tuna, California, etc., Hayai Zushi also features teriyaki bowls, bento boxes and Asian salads. Give ’em a try the next time you’re looking for speedy sushi.
Whatta wine list!
Congratulations to the folks up at Snowbird’s Aerie restaurant. The Aerie has been awarded Wine Spectator’s prestigious Best of Award of Excellence for 2009. This is WS’s second-tier award, given to restaurants displaying “vintage depth or excellent breadth across several wine regions.” The Aerie joins Bangkok Thai On Main, The Glitretind and La Caille as Utah’s only Best of Award of Excellence winners.
