If there is a more fun and indulgent way to contribute to a good cause than Taste of the Nation, I don’t know what it is. Sponsored by Share Our Strength, 100 percent of ticket sales to the annual food-and-wine festival that is Taste of the Nation goes toward ending childhood hunger in America. Taste of the Nation Utah takes place on Sunday, Aug. 2, from noon–4 p.m. at Solitude Mountain Resort in beautiful Big Cottonwood Canyon. Taste of the Nation Utah features food from more than 40 of Utah’s best chefs and restaurants, along with wine tasting, live music (will the Brothers Stoddard reunite for another celebrated appearance?) and a silent auction. Advance tickets for Taste of the Nation Utah are $75 for general admission, $125 for VIP seating, $1,200 for a 10-person VIP table, and $1,400 for a group of 20 general-admission tickets. Where there’s smoke
Ogden now sports its own barbecue restaurant. It’s called Soul & Bones, located at 319 E. 24th St. Soul & Bones appetizers include fried pickles, fried okra and crawfish beignets. Entrees have a Louisiana leaning, with dishes like étouffée, blackened chicken, shrimp and crawfish Creole, and blackened catfish. From the smoker, there are St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and beef brisket. Yummy sides include black-eyed peas, hush puppies, collard greens and dirty rice. Soul & Bones is open Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. For takeout, call 801-627-4BBQ.
