Fear not if your busy shopping schedule has left little room for your giving this season, because there are still last-minute opportunities to give back—like an interfaith donation drive for Utah senior citizens. Or helping out a local toy drop for children of low-income families. If nothing else, low-income advocates at the Crossroads Urban Center are still looking for donations to their thrift store.

Shalom Salaam Tikkun Olam
Thursday, Dec. 23 & Friday Dec. 24

Sometimes the idea of “peace” gets lost in translation between peoples and cultures—but you couldn’t tell that from the good works of the Shalom Salaam Tikkun Olam program, an interfaith donation drive by local representatives of the Salt Lake City Jewish and Muslim communities. This year, the organization is collecting donations to deliver to more than 600 senior citizens. Needed items include liquid soap, hats, scarves, 20-pound bags of basmati and jasmine rice and winter coats for children and adults.
West High School, 241 N. 300 West, 801-487-6970, Dec. 23, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. & Dec. 24, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. E-mail Eileen Hallet Stone for more info at ehswriter@aol.com

Candy Cane Corner
Thursday, Dec. 23 & Friday, Dec. 24

Clients of the YWCA, Road Home Family Shelter and the Volunteers of America of Utah visit the Candy Cane Corner to pick out gifts to surprise their children with on Christmas morning. Your donations of unwrapped toys gives these low-income parents that opportunity. The Candy Cane Corner is always looking for donations right up until Christmas Eve.
Candy Cane Corner, 2526 S. 300 West, 801-537-8601, Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, noon-7 p.m.
