July is upon us, and that means it’s time for government planners to plan ahead for the next fiscal year. But before you embed yourself in a government committee room, get some sun and run to raise money for youth in Haiti. Later, check out a Legislative committee on health care, where lawmakers will discuss the impact of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the Affordable Care Act. Later, the Salt Lake City Planning Commission will discuss major master plans like the West Salt Lake Master Plan.Haiti’s Kids 5K & Fun Run
Saturday, July 7

On Saturday, break a sweat to help impoverished youth in Haiti. Lose weight and change lives by registering for the Haiti’s Kids 5K & Fun Run in Sugar House Park. The $25 registration fee will go to raise funds for nonprofit Zion’s Children of Haiti, which sponsors educational opportunities for youth in Haiti and is looking to provide funding for hot meals for Haitian children.

Health System Reform Task Force
Tuesday, July 10

Following a Supreme Court stunner that found President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act health-care reform of 2010 to be constitutional, conservatives’ heads have stopped spinning and now they’re figuring out what to do next. The Utah Legislature will be discussing the fallout in a special committee hearing. The committee will be a good opportunity to see how the Legislature will consider expanding (or not) Medicaid in the state, something the Supreme Court found the president’s legislation had to grant greater authority to states.
