Retirement & Independent Entities Appropriations Subcommittee
Thursday, Feb. 3
The nest-egg counters of this legislative subcommittee will be reviewing the budget for the Utah Retirement Systems fund as well as the Utah Public Employees Health Program. The committee will also discuss a legislative audit that recently dinged PEHP for providing health care to the state’s employees at higher costs than comparable insurance carriers in the state.

Sustainability Summit
Saturday, Feb. 5
The Salt Lake Center for Community Engagement will be hosting a daylong summit for green thinkers to share their thoughts on solutions for sustainability in our community and world. Using open-share technologies, the summit hopes to maximize its brainstorming on practical solutions for greener tomorrows today. The summit’s keynote speaker is Alyssa Kay, the local entrepreneur behind Gorilla Design, which markets cheap, environmentally friendly housing options. Cost for the event is $25 and includes lunch.

Salt Lake City Planning Commission
Wednesday, Feb. 9
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker wants to add more muscle to his sustainability code by adding recycling- and
construction-waste regulations into the city code. That addition will be discussed at this meeting, which will also hear petitions on behalf of Walmart for zoning changes necessary to construct one of America’s most loved/hated retail outlets at 2705 E. Parley’s Way.
