The Hive Gallery in Trolley Square has had some interesting exhibits that tend toward the style- and fashion-conscious. So, it’s a little surprising that its upcoming event, Repressionism, features models mostly sans clothing. Event organizer Shadna Sieger, former owner of the IAO Gallery in Salt Lake City, explains: “Repressionism is a conceptual art piece that seeks to explore what it is we project (as society and individuals) on people representing various intimate relationships.”

Sharpie markers will be provided to spectators, who can then make their own statements about the human body—as represented by models presented in relationships gay, straight and individual—by drawing directly on the models, who will be blindfolded and bound. The event is to be documented and added to a collective of images of the same concept taken from around the country.

The human body as a blank canvas—what could be more provocative? If nothing else, you’re likely to never think of a Sharpie the same way again.
