300 People Against HJR 12
Friday, Feb. 19
Citizen lobbyists used Facebook to create the group “300 People Against HJR 12” and are rallying against a bill at the Legislature that is “a radical and wrong statement on climate change.” The bill, which essentially states that global warming is not caused by man and carbon should be regulated as a pollutant, has already passed the House. If it passes the Senate, it will become an official position of the Legislature. The bill is currently waiting a hearing in the Senate Workforce Services and Community and Economic Development Committee.
Utah State Capitol, Senate Building Room 215, 300 N. State St., Feb. 19, 2 p.m.
Political Forum at Salt Lake Acting Company
Sunday, Feb. 21
Inspired by the political undercurrents of SLAC’s Too Much Memory—a modern adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone—this forum poses the questions: At what extreme does civil disobedience become terrorism? And, when does rule of law turn into tyranny? Former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson, Tim DeChristopher and others will be on the panel, while KRCL’s Troy Williams will moderate.
