I heard from a friend that Barry Newbold, the superintendent of the Jordan School District, made more than $200,000 per year. I was dismayed, to say the least.
I went to UtahsRight.com, and lo and behold, it was not only true, but he made $241,197. Where have I been sleeping for the past 38 years? (That is how long he has been in office, I’m told).
I did some more investigation and found that there is only one elected official who makes more money than Newbold, and that is President Barack Obama. Vice President Joe Biden earns a paltry $221,000, $20,000 less than Newbold. Senators Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett earn a measly $174,000 per year each, $50,000 less than Newbold. Gov. Gary Herbert earns only $103,000.
Am I crazy, or is something wrong? Both deputy superintendents, Sherry Wasden and Burke Jolley, make more than our U.S. senators and congressmen representing Utah. I can’t even fathom this.
The Jordan School District is large and complex, but come on.
Could this be the tip of an iceberg they don’t want us to see? Is it any wonder why Jordan School District is in the red over $38 million?
There are two things that I’d like to find out: 1. What do the Jordan School Districts board members make? 2. What backgrounds do they have for their jobs?
Something’s missing in this scenario, and we should all be looking into it.
