Airport Eats
On Nov. 15, HMSHost will unveil 13 new dining venues at the Salt Lake City International Airport. It’s been a long time coming, but I for one am greatly looking forward to the expanded and elevated eating options at the airport. The new restaurants include Salt Lake City Pizza & Pasta, High West Distillery & Saloon, Millcreek Coffee Roasters, Vivace by Cucina Toscana, Greek Souvlaki, Market Street Grill, Auntie Anne’s, Smashburger, Great Wraps, Fresh Market on the Go and French Meadow Bakery & Café. These are in addition to the recently opened Cat Cora’s Kitchen & Lounge, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and Vino Volo Ale House (featuring Squatters brews). Even more exciting: Popeyes Chicken is coming to the SLC Airport!

Permanent POP
Good news for lovers of pop-up dining: SLC POP is settling into a permanent location, the Nata Gallery at 29 E. 400 South. Chef Katie Weinner has created a Kickstarter campaign at to find assistance to fund the “guerrilla” restaurant. According to Weinner, SLC POP will “still be a spontaneously scheduled culinary event, but now it will always be at the same great location!”

Judd’s Hill @ Silver Fork
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Silver Fork Lodge (11332 E. Big Cottonwood Canyon, Brighton, will host a wine-pairing dinner featuring one of my favorite wineries and winemakers: Judd’s Hill, of Napa Valley. Winemaker Judd Finkelstein and Libation Inc. owner Francis Fecteau will be on hand to discuss the Judd’s Hill wines being poured, which include Judd’s Hill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Merlot Juliana Vineyards, Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Oak Knoll District Chardonnay. The cost per person is $55 (plus tax and gratuity) for dinner and wine pairings, or $25 for dinner only. Hopefully, Judd will bring his ukulele along—he’s quite the entertainer! Silver Fork Lodge is also offering overnight accommodations with breakfast for two for $90, plus tax. For reservations, phone Silver Fork Lodge at 801-533-9977.

Quote of the week: Airline food is not intended for human consumption. It’s intended as a form of in-flight entertainment, wherein the object is to guess what it is, starting with broad categories such as “mineral” and “linoleum.” —Dave Barry
