It’s pilot season in Utah ... sort of. This week marks the launch of a unique local “film festival” that actually invites would-be show-runners to launch their own monthly series with a five-minute-or-less pilot episode that will be screened at Brewvies. Fifteen entries will be selected for screening by a review board, with the audience getting a chance to vote on the top three that will be “picked up” and those that will be cancelled; a secondary online-only vote will select two additional wild-card winners. Then next month, new series will compete against new episodes from the five returning winners. It’s Nielsen democracy in its purest form. The first My Utah TV event will be held this week, with subsequent installments planned for the second Sunday of every month. Get started on that great idea now, and visit the Website for submission details. (Scott Renshaw)
