ttTHE BLOOD BROTHERS, CELEBRATION
tSix degrees of separation is in full effect this week as Celebration and TV On the Radio roll into town. Celebration’s Katrina Ford provided the backing vocals and appeared in TVOR’s video for “Staring at the Sun” before Ford & Co. swept the nation with their own soulful dance anthems. “I want the line between the people on stage and the people watching to be blurred,” she says, so don’t be surprised if the free-spirited trio invades your comfort zone. Ditto for The Blood Brothers, an experimental post-hardcore band so intense they could just as easily perform as Blood On the Wall if a certain Brooklyn group hadn’t swiped the name. tFor those still standing after this morning’s St. Paddy’s Day parade, pony up to Salt Lake City’s all-Irish, all-the-time pub for an evening of traditional folk music and Celtic rock. The debauchery kicks off with The Rusted Reel kicking it old-school followed by Heathen Highlanders’ raucous bagpipes and drums'the perfect remedy for a premature hangover! ttBADLY DRAWN BOY
tWhen Badly Drawn Boy played DV8 a few years back, he put away at least four packs of cigarettes during his 90-minute set. At times pausing midsong to light up a smoke, the British singer/songwriter born Damon Gough engaged the audience in casual conversation about his wife, his boy, his fish before launching another hearty, piano-driven tune off Have You Fed the Fish?, The Hour of Bewilderbeast and the soundtrack to About a Boy. Whether spoken or sung, Gough’s narratives have a warm, working-class vibe to them that makes even the toniest of all listeners wish they were a bit more salt-of-the-earth. His latest full-length Born in the U.K. continues the colloquial narrative thread heavy on nostalgia and hometown pride. The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, 10 p.m. Tickets: 24tix.com

ttTV ON THE RADIO, SUBTLE
tIf TV On the Radio’s much talked-about appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman is any indication, the New York indie rockers are going to straight-up annihilate In the Venue'or at least shatter a few stranded pints. While 2003’s Young Liars EP debuted a rather mellow, if abstract, sound full of electronic loops and mean guitar that lost some of its strength on Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes. 2006’s Return to Cookie Mountain effectively crushed any sign of weakness with lightning-rod numbers (“Wolf Like Me,” “Let the Devil In,” “Blues From Down Here”) and hypnotic ballads (“Dirty Whirl,” “I Was a Lover”). Don’t miss opening act Subtle, hip-hop superheroes fueled by sweet-talking chameleon Doseone. In the Venue, 579 W. 200 South, 7 p.m. All-ages. Tickets: 24Tix.com

P.O.S., K-OS, GYM CLASS HEROES
tWhat a dilemma! Catch TV on the Radio in all their ferocious glory or witness P.O.S. unleash his untamed heart? This probably isn’t the last time P.O.S. will come through town, but why wait until the masses get hip to his dynamic stage presence, street poetics and inventive, genre-bending production. Bragging rights are cool. So is standing three feet away from the Minneapolis emcee while the crowd jumps and shouts in unison every word to “Music for Shoplifting,” “Duct Tape,” and other tracks off his two stunning albums. Canadian rhyme slayer K-OS and Fueled By Ramen’s Gym Class Heroes might add enough incentive to skip TVOR (you could try to squeeze in both shows, but you’re guaranteed to miss at least one killer act in the process).
