What do the likes of Orientale Dansi, Moroccan Winds, Scimitar and Sahara Dreams have in common? Such romantic-sounding dance troupes will be among the many groups participating in the next Meeting of the Tribes.
If it all sounds rather exotic, that’s because it is.
The Meeting of the Tribes serves as common ground for local performing groups that gather to promote the appreciation for danse orientale or belly dancing. The assembly highlights variations on traditional Middle Eastern dancing, including classes and performance companies from several local schools. In this way, it differs from the annual Belly Dance Festival, which promotes both professional and enthusiasts alike.
But still, we’re talking about several hundred dancers all coming together to support each other’s chosen way of dance through loud and collective trilling ululation.
